Program Overview
Cairns Netball Association’s Development Program supports players as they move from beginner participation through to competition, representative opportunities and broader netball development.
The program is designed to help players improve their technical skills, understand the game, build confidence and enjoy netball in a positive, supportive environment.
Development Pathways
NetsetGo
Ages 5–10 | Entry-Level Netball
NetSetGO is where netball begins. This introductory program helps young players develop basic movement, coordination and netball skills through fun activities, music, games and modified play.
Focus areas include:
- Passing and catching
- Footwork and movement
- Balance and coordination
- Teamwork and confidence
- Modified game play
Junior Netball
10/U, 12/U, 14/U | Skill Development & Game Play
Junior Netball gives players the opportunity to continue developing their skills through regular training, team-based learning and weekly competition. This stage helps players build confidence in a game environment while learning more about positioning, teamwork, rules and match play.
Focus areas include:
- Core netball skills
- Court movement and positioning
- Attacking and defending
- Teamwork and communication
- Game awareness
Intermediate Netball
Up to 18/U | Continued Player Development
Intermediate Netball supports older junior players as they continue to refine their skills, strengthen their game knowledge and prepare for higher levels of competition.
Players are encouraged to develop greater independence, confidence and consistency on court.
Focus areas include:
- Advanced skill development
- Match strategy
- Positional understanding
- Fitness and court readiness
- Leadership and teamwork
Representative Pathways
For players seeking higher-level opportunities
Cairns Netball Association provides opportunities for players to progress into representative netball and further pathway programs.
This pathway is suited to players who are ready to challenge themselves, develop at a higher level and represent Cairns Netball in regional and state-level competitions.

Coach, Umpire & Volunteer Development
Supporting the whole netball community
Development at Cairns Netball is not limited to players. The Association also supports the growth of coaches, umpires and volunteers who help deliver a strong and sustainable netball community.
